About “Turmoil Within”:

Turmoil within is an intricate landscape of emotions that ebbs and flows within the depths of our inner world. It’s the stormy sea of conflicting thoughts, feelings, and desires that can create a sense of internal discord. This emotional tempest might arise from various sources—unresolved conflicts, unmet aspirations, or the struggle to balance personal expectations with external pressures. Turmoil within is a reminder that the human experience is marked by complexity, and our emotions are not always neatly aligned.

Navigating turmoil within requires introspection and self-awareness. It’s a journey of acknowledging and embracing the diversity of our emotions, understanding that they are an integral part of our human nature. Turmoil within prompts us to dig deeper, to reflect on our fears, hopes, and insecurities, in order to find a path towards resolution and growth. Just as storms eventually give way to clear skies, working through inner turmoil can lead to a more profound understanding of ourselves, fostering personal development and greater emotional resilience.

The Music

Turmoil Within is an introspective solo piano piece that delves within and sets to music the conflicts one can feel within themselves.

From the very first chord, a haunting atmosphere is evoked from the F#minor add9 chord. The G# (add9 note) creates a constant dissonance with the root (F#). It is this conflict and ebb and flow of the accompaniment that depicts the conflicts one can experience within themselves. The use of the D major chord helps relieve the tension that arrises from the initial chord.

Despite the dissonance the piece offers moments of respite and introspection. These delicate and introspective sections provide a temporary release from the emotional intensity through a walk down from the B minor chord to the E major which helps bring a lightness and a sense of hope to the piece.
