About “Tears of the Soul”
Tears of the Soul is a powerful example of how sadness can fuel creativity. When we’re deep in sorrow, art becomes a way to express and process those emotions. Creating something meaningful out of pain can bring comfort and even a glimmer of hope. By channelling sadness into our art, we open up and show our true selves. Our raw emotions give our work a depth that resonates with others who have felt similar pain. Whether it’s through painting, writing, music or any other form of art, we can turn our suffering into something that speaks to the human experience. Tears of the Soul is a piece that was born from such a journey.
The Music
Tears of the Soul uses a technique called ‘rubato’ in both the left-hand accompaniment as well as the melody. Throughout the entire piece, rubato is used to push and pull the tempo, this with the ebb and flow of dynamics make for an incredibly emotional experiencer both as the composer/performer and the listener. Rubato has way of giving and subverting expectations which is perfect when trying to convey emotions, especially in a piece like this.
Aside from the technique of rubato being employed in Tears of the Soul, the piece was really born from a really stressful day at work and things just not working out. It was from this stress and even sadness, that the melody and was created. It was the healing process that I needed to undergo whilst at the piano, that this song was created.
