About “Don’t Let Go”
Don’t Let Go is about not giving up. It is a testament to the resilience and strength that the human spirit can choose to exhibit. It is the unwavering determination to persevere in the face of challenges, setbacks and obstacles. When we choose not to give up, we tap into our inner resolve and find the courage to keep moving forward, even when the path ahead seems arduous or uncertain. Not giving up is a mindset that fuels progress and growth. It requires embracing failures as valuable learning opportunities and using them to fuel motivation and innovation. It means staying committed to our goals, dreams and aspirations, even when faced with adversity or self-doubt.
The Music
This particular piece came about on a quiet Saturday morning, where I was sitting at the piano and was longing to record a piece for SoundCloud. The entire piece came about by way of improvisation. Improvisation was the way I would develop melodies and chord progressions. Improvisation was generally the way I would process memories or situations in my life.
In Don’t Let Go the first minute of the song is setting the harmonic context for the melody. The right hand uses arpeggiation, intermingled with the melody in the first minute of the song. The song constantly uses eighth notes to create a harmonic texture throughout the entire piece. After the 1-minute mark, the song introduces the main theme melody. This main theme melody is introduced again in octaves at about the 1:46 mark. If I were to put lyrics to this song, “Don’t Let Go” would be sung over this main theme melody.
