About “Jerusalem”
Jerusalem is one of the world’s oldest and most historically significant cities, and is a place where the past and present converge in a tapestry
of culture, religion and history. As the capital of Israel, it holds immense religious and cultural importance for Jews, Christians and Muslims. The Old
City, a UNESCO World Heritage site, is the heart of Jerusalem, known for its iconic landmarks like the Western Wall, the Church of the Holy Sepulchre and the Dome of the Rock. These sites are sacred to their respective faiths and attract pilgrims and tourists from around the globe. Jerusalem’s history is layered with a rich tapestry of conquests and conflicts. It has been ruled by various empires, including the Romans, Byzantines, Ottomans and the British Mandate. The city’s geopolitical significance and its status as a focal point of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict make it a place of global importance and ongoing international debate.
The Music
This piece was inspired by the Phrygian mode. I wanted to capture the history of the Middle East with the use of flutes, percussions and strings (including violin). The track has an underlying percussive rhythm that drives the piece forward. Picture a drone gracefully soaring above the ancient cityscape of Jerusalem; that’s the scene this piece was crafted to accompany. Originally composed for the new Bible X game ‘Gate Zero’, it sets the tone for an immersive journey through history and myth. This is one of my favourite pieces with this kind of modal flavour. This particular piece used a series of percussion samples and Abbey Road 1 strings (download the template).
