About “Crime Committed”
A crime is an act that violates a law enacted by a governing authority. It can range from relatively minor offenses, like petty theft, to more serious crimes such as murder or fraud. Crimes are usually classified into various types, including violent crimes, property crimes, white-collar crimes and many others. The punishment for committing a crime can vary widely depending on factors such as the nature of the offense, the jurisdiction in which it occurred and the circumstances surrounding the crime. In the present day, Scandinavian countries are leaning towards rehabilitation rather than incarceration, where possible. Providing mental health services will hopefully reduce the risk of them committing such crimes again, and more and more countries are following suit.
The Music
With this particular piece, I wanted to experiment with sounds. I downloaded a bunch of free samples and strung them together so that they could convey a story sonically. Initially you hear footsteps, a door open and close, glass shatter, footsteps running way and then an alarm going off. This happens all below 30 seconds. I then paired a glockenspiel from Abbey Road 1 to play around the same BPM as the alarm. It would fade in as the alarm faded out, so that the glockenspiel maintained that sense of urgency. The strings then come in with a mysterious-styled motif, interjected with trumpets swelling in every few bars, alternating with horns. A layer of woodwinds is inserted to continue the build followed by brass accenting the final seconds of this piece as the climax. The glockenspiel sees the listener out with the same ringing which has been ringing for the entirety of the track.
