About “Blue Fractals”
Found in both math and art, blue fractals are captivating patterns known for their repeating, self-similar structures. They’re part of the broader fractals category, complex shapes that look the same at any scale. These intricate designs form through repetitive math, transforming simple shapes with specific formulas. The colour blue adds depth and tranquillity to these patterns, making them visually appealing.
Blue fractals symbolise hidden beauty in simple processes. They come in many forms, like the famous Mandelbrot set with its detailed shapes, or more artistic interpretations blending mathematics and design. They remind us of the endless complexity in nature and math, showcasing how simplicity can lead to extraordinary beauty.
Blue Fractals is about exploring your thoughts and feelings. Blue is calming and deep, while fractals are complex shapes that repeat. So, the piece asks you to look at your mind and life, finding patterns and meaning in your experiences.
The Music
This piece was part of a #HansZimmerMonth competition made by Spitfire Audio. The piece is composed entirely of free plugins made by Spitfire Audio, called Labs (download the template). I initially wrote the piece out in Sibelius, and then produced the track in Logic Pro. It was great to limit my use of sounds and software as this made the creative process so much easier. The track was inspired by the visuals seen in the film.
